About Me

My name is Katy Hartwick and I am a graduate student in the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. For my Strategic Social Media class, we were given the opportunity to choose our own topic and presentation format for anything within the social media world about which we would like to learn more.

For my project, this blog is intended to document my research findings on the world of YouTube partnerships – the vloggers who have made a living out of making YouTube videos.

This project will answer the questions:

  • What is a YouTube Partner/Guru/Vlogger?
  • How are these YouTube leaders turning profit through their videos?
  • How do YouTube Partners get paid (e.g. sponsorships, pay-per-click, advertising, etc.)?
  • What constitutes “original content” and how to avoid Copyright Infringement?
  • How does one become a YouTube Partner?

In addition to this blog, I will also maintain a YouTube account where I will attempt to record, edit and upload daily video blogs (vlogs, if you will) about my research findings. I will embed my videos with my blog posts on this page, but feel free to subscribe to my YouTube account if you’d like to see the videos before I add them to the blog.

If you have any questions about this project or would like to see more of my work, please visit my personal website.
